2. DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
#1 STAR: Paul Laus (Freeze):
1 gl. 6 asts. 7 pts. 11 gms. +15
DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK??? I for one would never have expected him to get the
number three star let alone the number one star but he was very solid the whole
time and didn't get to carried away unless it was called for, which did happen
as you will see in the Goon of the Week part of the paper. Paul had two plus
three nights in victories over the Crunch (5-3) and the Ice Barons (6-1).
#2 STAR: Robert Svehla (Force):
3 gls. 8 asts. 11 pts. 11 gms. +13
Along with Robert Reichel, Robert Svehla helped the Force punish some of the
WLUHL teams. Robert had a couple of standout games with two assists and a plus 2
in a 4-1 win over the Stormbringers as well as a goal and an assist and a plus
four rating in a 6-1 clubbing of the Ice Bolts.
#3 STAR: Nick Lidstrom (Terriers):
3 gls. 5 asts. 8 pts. 10 gms. +10
Nick was as steady as one could be over this stretch. He was a big part in some
impressive wins for the Terriers. He had a plus three in a 4-3 win over the
Crunch and had a goal, two assists and a +2 rating in a 6-4 shootout victory
over the Hitmen.
Here is the up-to-date standings:

3. GOALIE OF THE WEEK
#1 STAR: Steve Shields (Winter Hawks):
4-2-1 1.29 GAA .957 Save % 30.1 S/GM 2 SO
Steve has been incredible over the last and after taking a back seat to a couple
goalies who were on a hot streak in the last edition Steve made it a point that
he would be the one to choose this week. He had two shutouts with one being a
1-0, 27 save performance against the Dragons.
#2 STAR: Guy Hebert (Terriers):
7-0-1 1.37 GAA .921 Save % 15.9 S/GM 1 SO
Guy didn't have to face to many shots over his eight games. He had one of his
best outings in a 1-0, 23 save performance in a victory over the Spiders.
#3 STAR: Tommy Salo (Pylons):
7-1-1 1.88 GAA .907 Save % 20.2 S/GM 1 SO
As with Guy, Tommy didn't face to many shots and probably let in more than he
would have wanted to. In a 7-0 blowout of the Sea Lions, Tommy had a yawner
facing just 14 shots.
Here is the updated standings:
Dominick Hasek (Dragons) 5 points $37,500
Steve Shields (Winter Hawks) 4 points $32,500
Roman Turek (Stormers) 4 points $32,500

4. GOON OF THE WEEK
#1 GOON: Gino Odjick (Force):
58 PIM's in 9 games 4-1-1
Gino showed some muscle since the last edition piling up the minutes during the
Forces' run. Gino had a 15 minute outburst durina 3-2 loss to the Manglers. Gino
put a beating on Kelly Miller. Now Miller isn't known for his fighting abilities
but it was an apparent cheap shot Miller had laid on one of Gino's teammates
that got his ire up.
#2 GOON: Paul Laus (Freeze):
58 PIM's in 11 games 1-0-2
Paul not only showed his defensive ability this week he also picked his spots to
keep the other teams in line. Paul put up 14 minutes in a 3-0 win over the
Dragons. He went to a draw in more of a wrestling match with Mark Tinordi and
later in the game jumped Adam Deadmarsh and gave him a beating while Deadmarsh
turtled.
#3 GOON: Bill Guerin (Goal Busters):
55 PIM's in 12 games 2-0-1
Bill had a little trouble putting some points on the board so he took his
frustrations out on opposing teams. Guerin had 9 minutes in a 3-1 win over the
Jugheads in which Guerin took about Donovan. He then had a little disagreement
with the ref in a 2-2 tie against the Ice Bolts in which he got a 10 minute
misconduct.
Here is the updated standings:
Paul Laus (Freeze) 13 points $105,000
Bob Probert (Freeze) 5 points $40,000
Gino Odjick (Force) 3 points $25,000
Brendan Shanahan (Pylons) 3 points $22,500
Owen Nolan (Crunch) 2 points $15,000
Rob Blake (Meatheads) 2 points $15,000
Bill Guerin (Goal Busters) 1 point $ 7,500
Kelly Chase (Stormers) 1 point $ 7,500

5. NEWS AND RUMOURS
DOGS:
Rumors coming out of Modesto indicate that the Reservoir Dogs are anxious to
make a move and will probably make at least one move before the deadline.
Vincent Damphousse is the most likely to go, and young forward Alex Korolyuk is
thought to be on the market as well, but virtually anyone on the roster
(note the use of the word "virtually") could be had, depending on the offer.
Damphousse C 96 44000 20 20 5 444 4320 0003 9 5 38
Korolyuk LW 77 02200 14 25 5 444 3320 0000 9 27 47
ICE BARONS:
The Ice Barons have had a frustrating time since the All-Star break. They are
currently 3 games under .500 since the break. Several deals have been made,
major line changes attempted, but nothing has seemed to
work. A very upset GM Lomax stormed out of practice yesterday and is apparently
off on another of his so-called scouting trips. AGM Kim Bassinger heard that
Lomax was flying to Greenland to check out another
prospect; this reporter heard he was headed to a clothing optional island in the
Caribbean. Who knows? Anyway, Bassinger is left to tend to the team again.
You will recall the last time Lomax had one of his
trips, Bassinger guided the team to numerous victories and even made a couple of
deals. Hopefully more of the same is in store. During shooting drills today,
naked pictures of Bassinger were taped to the
targets in each corner of the goal while she stood behind the net urging the
players on, clad with skates, socks and hockey pants (that's it). Shooting
seemed much improved. The Barons will be playing their
archrival Dragon Ladies in their next game. Currently the IBs are in second by
1 point over the In-Drags, so this game is crucial. When asked about deals, Kim
said "everybody wants Whitney, but only for some
aging veteran. Fat chance fatso! I am always willing to talk trade, but only
if we get equal talent in return. I can be a shrew(d) negotiator. Send all
deals to me personally and I will take care of
you. I will personally see that the IBs get back in the hunt." Have you ever
seen a cuter skater with their jersey off?

That's all for this edition. Remember the trade deadline is coming up fast so
get those trades done.
