Hi all and welcome to the fifth edition of the Penalty Box. The season is
progressing along nicely and things are really starting to heat up. The top
teams are looking for final pieces to their puzzles as are the middle ranked
teams. The weaker teams are starting their rebuilding process but there is
one thing that hasn't change and that is the fact that there are still
players out there putting the puck in the net, keeping it out of the net and
yet others trying to put players through the nets.

5. BROTHER LOVE INTERVIEW WITH DRAGON GM JUD BURKETT
BROTHER'S AND SISTER'S, WELCOME TO THE BROTHER LOVE SHOW ONCE AGAIN!!!!!
After taking some time off, Brother Love is back and Brother Love is
back once again to find that Love within the WFCWA that we all have
missed.
Today, Brother Love has found non other then BROTHER JUD, the GM of the
St. George Dragons and the BROTHER that has put together the team with
the best record by far in the WFCWA this year.
1. BROTHER JUD, it seems that since the begining of the season, your team,
the all mighty St. George Dragons have been on a tear and there really
hasn't been any big bumps in the road, a couple twists and turns but
overall this road has lead to success throughout the season so far.
How do you explain this success and do you it to continue through the
rest of the season?
I think first and foremost it's the strength of our goaltending. If our
goaltenders keep playing at the level they are now, we'll keep on winning.
And it's not just Hasek. Hasek has been awesome but Jimmy Waite has stepped
into the back-up role here in St. George and has really done a remarkable
job this season. We had Chris Terreri in the back-up role last year but we
lost him in the expansion draft. Waite has really filled that role well and
as long as he and Hasek continue their level of play the Dragons will
succeed.
2. BROTHER JUD, as well know, the prize that we all want is not the Prime
Ministers Cup awarded to the team with the best winning percentage in the
WLUHL during the regular season, we all want the WLUHL Cup which goes to
the Playoff Winning team and all our BROTHERS and SISTERS out there want to
know how you think your Dragons and your little Dragonmaincs will do in the
playoffs and what you think the chances of bringing the cup to St. George
will
be?
I'd like to think our chances are pretty good. We have all seen that
success in the regular season doesn't always translate to the playoffs but
if we can avoid the breakdown in goaltending we suffered last season in the
playoffs, I think we'll have a very good shot at winning the cup.
3. BROTHER JUD, we have looked up and down your roster to see where and who
is the reason for this success and of course we see the man between the
piper, my BROTHER, DOMINIK HASEK with a 1.87 GOA and a record of 27-5-4
and figure that he is THE reason for your success. However, there are some
other key guys on your team like BROTHER JOEY NIEUWENDYK who has 29 goals
and 24 assists and is a team leading Plus 30. Now I don't know about you,
but I am think that it ain't one BROTHER who is doing this, I think it is
BOTH of my BROTHERS who are leading this team, what does BROTHER JUD have
to say about this?
Joe Nieuwendyk has had a major impact this season. You go into training
camp and you look over your rosters and there are some obvious guys who you
think will carry the majority of the load and to be honest, Joe was not at
the top of my list of impact players this season. But Mark Recchi is not
quite getting all the bounces in his favor and Linden has suffered through
a few injuries and Nieuy has really stepped up his game to fill that void.
I gotta be honest it's a very pleasant surprise that Joe is playing as well
as he is. But it's not all Joe either, there are a few guys down on the
depth chart who have stepped it up at one point or another this year. We
play well as a team and I think it shows in that you see allot of players
getting the points night in and night out and it's not always the same
three or four guys.
4. BROTHER JUD, when we look over your roster, we see BROTHER KRAVCHUK
leading the defensemen scoring on the Dragons with 4 goals and 21 assists
and we are wondering if you could be looking to pick up another BROTHER
D-MAN to play back there, to stabalize your defence corps, a big deal,
a little deal but we can see something happening soon. What does BROTHER
JUD have to say about that?
I'm pretty comfortable with my roster the way it is. There are a few deals
I've looked at over the past few weeks but it's hard to trade away players
from a team that's having as much success as we are. If the right deal
comes along, of course I'll pull the trigger but so far I haven't really
found anybody thinking along the same lines as I am as far as what their
willing to give up and what I'm looking for. But the Stumpf brothers
usually pull of a big whammy of a trade right before the deadline and you
might see the Dragons involved in something like that.
5. Does BROTHER JUD have any closing comments???
Well, to be honest, I'm still a little upset with the German Boy for
loosing that tag team match I was so thoroughly KICKING ASS IN!!!!!!!!!
WELL FOLKS, THAT'S IT, THAT'S ALL from BROTHER LOVE. I would like to thank
BROTHER JUD for spending time with me tonight and I just want to leave you
all with this.... I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

7. NEWS AND RUMOURS
JUGHEADS:
The Jugheads are looking to deal everyone and anyone except Iginla,
Niedermayer, Zubov and Chara. Eddie "The Eagle" Belfour can be had for the
market price and even Roman "The Hammer" Hamrlik is available for all those
interested in bringing a new wrestler to your team. The Jugheads are looking
for first round draft picks and will give better deals to teams that are
willing to take high salaried players off their roster. Looking for the last
piece to the puzzle?? Need a scoring winger?? Steve Thomas fits that bill. A
passing winger/center?? Take a look at Joe Juneau. Need the ultimate
backstopper??? Well, Belfour is one of the best. That's all from Syracuse,
the ultimate place for the white March.
MEATHEADS:
The Meatheads in the last 15 day period made some drastic personel moves.
Gone are some surprising big names: Alexander Mogilny, Sandis Ozolinch,
Michel Petit, Terry Yake, Ruslan Salei, young prospects Eric Rsmussen and
Vaclav Varada. Incoming players are: Jeremy Roenick, Vladimir Malakov, Uwe
Krupp, Harry York and Owen Nolan. The incoming players are expected to help
the Meatheads toughness and the team defence. The team is currently fighting
for the top spot in the toughest division, where four points separate first
from last. There are rumours of Malakov being traded although management
won't confirm those rumours. The Meatheads only weakness might be their
goaltending with old guy Moog who has been having a great season and
newcommer McLennan who has looked shakey in practice so far and we are
worried without an improvement on defence he might be a detrement to the
team. Management wasn't thrilled to give up super prospects Rasmussen and
Varada but to get a superstar like Uwe Krupp should be worth it. Currently
the Meatheads have no one on the disabled list, (Knock on Wood). Last time
the paper came out, we had like six players and one player we just traded
for on the disabled list. Now with a full team finally, the Meatheads might
just be a team to be recond with down the stretch.
ICE BARONS:
News out of the Ice Barons camp is all good. There are no injuries to
report, the team is 9-3 in their last 12 games and comfortably in first plce
in their division (4th in the American Conference). Everyone is happy and
working together. GM Lomax has had some preliminary trade discussions with a
couple of Gm's, but nothing hot yet. The IB's would like to make a deal
before the trade deadline to shore up at wing (preferably someone who can
play both wings). Mike Knuble is not available for a bag of used pucks, or
stale donuts, or weak American beer. On the block as before are Dave Reid,
Scott Young and Ted Donato, as well as most other players (but only for
equal value). Maybe the IBs need some controversy. GM Lomax did well at the
All-Star Golf Tourney and no other stories from the All-Star weekend are
available (that we know of). AGM Kim Bassinger has been relatively quiet
lately, well if you forget about her nude skate-around during the All-Star
break. Boy was she hard to catch!
HITMEN:
Just days after being aquired by the Waterloo Hitmen, star center Alexei
Zhamnov was seen storming out of Waterloo Hitmen GM Jason Stumpf's office.
When we asked Mr. Zhamnov what this was all about Zhamnov had this to say.
"I don't what the hell he is thinking, but I am a #1 center in this damn
league and it seems to me that Mr. Stumpf has a problem! I ain't gonna be
their third string center and that's all I got to say! Maybe it's time I
take a little holiday from hockey if you get what I mean!"
With that, center Alexei Zhamnov left the arena skipping the team practice.
With that being said, it seems to us the Zhamnov is a very unhappy camper
coming to the Hitmen and it could only be a matter of time before Hitmen GM
Jason Stumpf makes another deal sending the unhappy Zhamnov out of Waterloo.
STORMERS:
The Sioux City Stormers are on the lookout for a number one center. Ray
Whitney has taken over the duties but the club feels he would be better
suited as a number two center. The Stormers are also rumoured to be going
after yet another tough guy in Kelly Chase. Nothing concrete has been set
yet but according to GM Kolsrud talks will be forthcoming. The Stormers are
still looking to deal but are balking at any offer for Joe Thornton,
Miroslav Satan, Glen Murray and Dan McGillis. They are not saying that these
guys will not be traded but deals for them will really have to turn GM
Kolsrud's head.

A special thanks goes out to Jason Stumpf for the Stats and the Brother Love
interview. I would like to apologize for the stats not coming out straight.
Jason and I are trying to figure out why this is but have yet to do so.
