Hi all and welcome to the third edition of the Penalty Box. Once again I am
a little late with the paper but good things come to those who wait or so they
say. I made a little error the first couple of papers. The third star (goon) was
suppose to receive $7,500 not $7,000. This will be corrected this week and in
the updated standings it shall be reflected.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE ALL-STAR GAME IS IN THIS EDITION!!!!

5. NEW AND RUMOURS
FREEZE:
Trade rumors still circling around the Freeze camp. Most of them regarding
Peter Bondra and Brett Hull. Some GM's made offers that were close to being
agreed upon but as happens so many times, the offers disappear into the night.
Freeze coach JJ continues to meet with Coach Stumpf of the Hitmen regarding
trade issues and the two are also being viewed by other GM's in the league as
possibly the 2 most violent Coach's ever in the history of the WLUHL. Their
actions have drawn the ire of most of the WLUHL officials and other GM's who are
tired of the goon tactics they seem to be so fond of. Look for a trade to be
made very soon for either Bondra or Hull or maybe even both...
MEATHEADS:
Mogilny talks have died down and it looks like he won't be traded. Possibly to
fix the meatheads defensive woes, Sandis Ozolinch might be traded for a more
stay at home d-man but talks are ongoing on that subject. Moog's play has
improved as well as Lumme's and rookies Varada. Yake should be back from injury
soon, which will help the team as well.
FALCONS:
Falcons GM/owner Rob Shore was privately delighted about the recent megadeal
that sent Jaromir Jagr (and others) to the Quabbin Crunch for Vincent
Damphousse, Kenny Jonsson, Petr Sykora and Derek Morris. Not because he thought
that the deal necessarily weakened the intradivision rival, but because it set a
precedent for any future trade that might involve Eric Lindros. Sources close to
the team say that Lindros may still be moved in the off-season, and that at
least two teams have already called to inquire about his availability. ... Local
columnists are calling for the head of head coach Jeff Kugel in the midst of a
five-game (0-4-1) winless streak. Shore dismissed any rumors that Kugel might be
fired. "He's no closer to getting fired now than he was to getting a contract
extension when we were winning five straight two weeks ago," Shore said.
ICE BARONS:
Things are pretty quiet here in Birmingham. The team is around the .500 mark,
in first place in its division, and there are no major rumors about trades at
the moment. We did have some discussions about obtaining a RW, but nothing
worked out. Thus our opening day roster is still intact. Still looking for a
RW or perhaps a C, but only for an even deal. We have not been real happy with
the injury situation as we have lost about 75 man games. But we are not along
in that regard. All of the guys are healthy right now and we hope to keep it
that way. Brendan Morrison leads the way with 37 days missed with three
separate injuries.
TERRIERS:
Rumors continue to swirl around Kitchener that Tugnutt and Modin are being
actively talked about on the trade market. The Terriers appartently feel
that Modin has not lived up to his abilities. The team is happy with Ron
however they feel they don't need a backup of Ron's abilities when CUJO will
be getting the bulk of the work load.
ICE HAWKS:
Slava Kozlov and Jason Arnott are on the trading block along with Vincent
Damphousse.

halfway decent. We will try to correct that by the time next issue comes out.

7. ALL-STAR INFORMATION
WLUHL League Offices:
=====================
As the league slowly approaches the half way point of the year, our sites are
now begining to focus upon the upcoming All-Star Break. The All-Star break will
take place after Day 70, which will be the half way point of the season.
However, we do need is a location for the All-Star game this year. Like in the
past, we will be accepting nominations for the All-Star game. When sending in
your nomination, please send it out to just myself, or you may send it out to
the whole league. I would prefer sending it out to the whole league as that way
we all can see what you have to offer. stating in the subject line "WLUHL:
All-Star Game Application" As well, when you send in your application for the
All-Star game, please state why you think YOU deserve the All-Star weekend, Why
YOUR TEAM deserves the All-Star weekened, Why YOUR CITY deserves the All-Star
weekend and WHAT YOU CAN OFFER the league during the All-Star break.
Please remember, that unlike the Olympic Boys, I do accept bribes and I am not
afraid to say it right out front :)
All All-Star applications must be sent into the league offices BY Day 60. I will
then announce after the games have been played on Day 60 where the All-Star game
will be played this year.
Further information about the voting and selection of the players for the
All-Star game will take place at a later date.
