5. NEWS AND RUMOURS

MEATHEADS:

With Alex Mogilny out and the team playing better, the rumours are heating
up that Mogilny won't have a spot and will be traded by the time he comes
back. Wayne Gretzky on the other hand seems to of settled down and doesn't
appear to likely to be traded. Management is still looking to improve on
defence and their goalie. The Meatheads rank 13th in the standings, 4th in
scoring and 2nd to last in team defense.

MANGLERS:

Well, after the fast start (3-3-1) for an expansion team, we have really
settled down nicely into a funk (2-5-2). Some things are going to
change, and change now. We're going to give Chris Terreri a chance to
show his stuff. He starred in the preseason, but after we picked up
Fiset we wanted to see what he could do. He hasn't disappointed, but he
hasn't played spectacularly. We are also changing our forechecking
system a bit, and we've thrown together a fifth forward line. We'll see
how they click and they may very well become our #1 line if all works
out well.

Despite our slump, we're still second in our division. Okay, so maybe
the rest of the division is struggling as well, but we're still in a
position to threaten for first place. And that would be a great
accomplishment for any expansion team.

FALCONS:

The Falcons brass is now saying that it will consider trading Eric Lindros
after the WLUHL8 season. Such a statement would have been unthinkable just a
couple of weeks ago. The Falcons might bite on a sweet offer for the
franchise
center, but Lindros' raw potential might scare them into keeping him. ...
Bill
Ranford has been outstanding in a limited role with the Falcons of late, but
don't look for that role to increase. "Richter's our man," Kugel said. "We
don't want to jerk around with him. Ranford will be our stopper, when we're
trying to snap out of a losing streak. Or he'll be used in special
situations
-- we'll pick our spots with him."

STORMERS:

The Sioux City Stormers are very happy with the way the team is playing.
However, they are not to impressed with Oleg Tverdovsky. He has been injured
a couple of times already this season and has been a healthy scratch the
last few games. "He just has not looked as though he was very inthused about
playing so we sat him in the press box." said GM/coach Jason Kolsrud. Olaf
Kolzig has been steadily improving and he is starting to feel comfortable
with the Stormers defense. The top two lines have been very productive for
the Stormers but line three hasn't been pulling it's weight. Line four is
doing what they are expected to do and that is rough up the other team. The
Stormers would like to add some more toughness in the center position and a
peticularly interested in acquiring Kelly Chase. "We have asked about his
availability but he has been part of other trade discussions and we haven't
heard whether or not the trade discussions have fallen thru or not." said
Kolsrud.
