Hello everybody and welcome once again to another season of the WLUHL
and the Penalty Box. A whopping twenty GM's send in nominations, news,
rumours of some sort. I am very, very pleased with this. Of course, it makes
my job a tad harder having to look thru all the nominations but it makes it
much more enjoyable.
Yes, I know this is late again but I have a real good excuse for this
one. I just got a brand new computer on Tuesday so I have been trying to get
it all set up and get all the things back onto it as I want. I still have
some things to straighten out but I was getting a little bored with trying
to do that so I decided to work on the paper. Before we go any further I
just felt compelled to put this in the paper. Here is the first great quote
of the season:

1. FORWARD OF THE WEEK
Things sure haven't changed much since going to the APBA format. There
are still guys out there who are putting up huge numbers this year. Right
off the bat we have one team taking care of business. The Ice Hawks take the
first two slots for this years first stars of the week:

This wasn't quite as easy as it was on the HLS2. With APBA they also
keep tracks shots per game, which I feel should also play a part in picking
the goalie star:

Personally, this category is still my favorite and with APBA stats this
category is even funner for me. Of course, it doesn't take a rocket
scientist to get PIM's nor does it take one to figure out who has the
biggest goon. That's right folks the Hitmen have yet another:

5. NEWS AND RUMOURS
MEATHEADS:
The Meatheads offence is shooting on goal, outshooting almost every
opponent. The Meatheads had 60 shots on the Knights in a 3-3 tie. The
Meatheads goalies need help. Rumours are the Meatheads are looking to
upgrade moog cos he's only getting 24 shots on goal and letting like 3 in.
In other news, rumours of Gretzky and Mogilny being offered to other teams
is not false. Even though the combo of Gretz and Mogilny have been the only
good offense the team has had. Kariya has been non-existant until the
Knights game where he had 2 goals.
MANGLERS:
For being an expansion team, the Manglers are happy with their start. We are
taking a look at our players and seeing what they can bring to the table. So
far, when we've had a healthy and full team, we've competed. We are just too
young this year to overcome much adversity, but that's okay. Next year we
won't be so young! Depending on what happens over the next five games or so,
we may be looking to re-tweak the team. This will give us a good feel of how
our team will compete this year, and how entertained our fans are about this
team. We've been scoring some goals, but we're always looking to add some
skating to our team.
ICE BARONS:
Rumours out of teh IB clubhose are after losing Brendan Morrison for 25
games due to Crunch hooliganism and losing the game as well, the IB's didn't
really show up in their next game with the Pylons, being shutout 2-0. Arturs
Irbe was heard mumbling after the game, "Godd***, nobudy playin' on this
teeem. Brendan went down and so did da' teeem." Needless to say, the team is
in total disarray. GM Lomax and AGM Kim Bassinger were huddling in the IB
bunker and refused to speak to the press. Only a prepared statement was read
stating that: "Everyone is available on this team. We cleaned house last
season and we will do it again. Phone your offers in to 1-800-ICEBARON."
HITMEN:
So far this season, GM Jason Stumpf has only directed his frustration over
his teams poor play at Falcons GM Rob Shore and Falcons head coach Jeff
Kugel, creating one of the hottest rivalries in the WLUHL this season.
However, in recent days, Mr. Stumpf has expressed som displeasure with some
of his vetern players play including that of injuried Dman Al MacInnis and
All-Star Raymond Bourque. As of yet, the trade rumours have benn pretty
quiet, but if the team continues to play as they are now, expect that all to
change quickly.
FREEZE:
Rumours in T-town have Brett Hull heading out of Toledo even though nothing
has been confirmed yet. Therre was also some speculation that All-Star Peter
Bondra was possibly heading out of T-town. The Freeze have started out a
lackluster 2-7 but the Freeze coaching staff is ready to implement a new
twist on their system which should help. Freeze coach JJ has one thing to be
proud of so far... the Freeze aren't winning games but they are injuring
their opponents at a monstrous clip. At least 13 players that have faced the
Freeze ineup have been injured in only 9 games. League officials are set to
meet on this issure because they are getting tired of working the Freeze
gamens and having to constantly break up fights and listen to Coach JJ
behind the Freeze bench. Last week coach JJ flew to Waterloo to meet with
Hitmen GM Jason Stumpf regarding pounding down a few brewskies. The buzz was
that the 2 most violent GM's in the league were contemplating either a trade
or a hit on one of the other GM's in the league.
